OK, I’m not going to talk about politics, per se, but covering the McCain rally yesterday, it was really amusing to listen to the music.

After all the warm-up speakers, we waited about 15 minutes for McCain to emerge. In that time, this is what was blasted into the stuffy high-school gym:

“We can work it out” (Covered by Stevie Wonder). I’m sure they probably couldn’t get rights to the original. A good message to send, but hardly en-pointe with nasty recent mudslinging. Of course, after hearing McCain tamp down rowdy supporters (who were urging him to fight dirty) by telling them he’d be respectful, I guess it makes sense.

“XXXs and OOOs” by Trisha Yearwood. A song about an “American Girl” doing her best to get by. Funny considering Palin wasn’t there. I was secretly chuckling thinking of crusty old McCain walking out to that song. But alas, it didn’t happen.

But next, oh, next, there was “Dancning in the Streets!” I think it was the original by the Vandellas, but I can’t be sure. It was hot and sticky and McCain was late. There was no dancing.

And finally, the last song — the one he and Pawlenty came charging out to. Did it send the right message? You be the judge! Are they gonna take us riiight into a “Danger Zone”?
